Call to Worship

Pastor

Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy!

For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared, a great king over all the earth.

Congregation

He subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet. He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

Pastor

God has ascended amid shouts of joy, the Lord amid the sounding of trumpets. Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises!

Congregation

For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm!

God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne. The nobles of the nations assemble as the people of the God of Abraham,

All

for the kings of the earth belong to God; he is greatly exalted. Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King Jesus, sing praises!

Song Rejoice (CCLI#251645)

All the earth rejoice, your Creator reigns
As the only awesome God, The Alpha and the Omega,
Who was, is, and is to come.
Let the oceans roar and the mountains sing,
He provides for all He has made
So be comforted as He rules with grace.
Rejoice, all the earth, rejoice!

All the world rejoice, for the baby comes
As a humble prince in the night. The Word made flesh, Emmanuel,
The Everlasting Light.
Let the warmth of heav’n reach the coldest heart
With the gospel of His grace,
For His heel will bruise the serpent’s head.
Rejoice, all the world, rejoice!

All the church rejoice, for your King returns
On a white horse wearing a crown.
He will break the sky with the angel’s shout,
Descending from the clouds.
Then the dead will rise from the land and sea,
All His people will ascend. We will reign with Him for eternity.
Rejoice, all the church, rejoice!

Then the dead will rise from the land and sea,
All His people will ascend. We will reign with Him for eternity.
Rejoice, all the church, rejoice! Rejoice, all the church, rejoice!

~God Renews Us in Christ~

We Corporately Confess Our Sins

Almighty God, we acknowledge and confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed; we have not loved you with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength; we have not loved our neighbor as ourselves. We have broken our baptismal vows and failed to keep you and your covenant ever before our eyes and the eyes of our children. Deepen within us our sorrow for the wrong we have done, and the good we have left undone. Lord, you are full of compassion and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy and there is forgiveness with you! Restore to us the joy of your salvation; bind up that which is broken, give light to our minds, strength to our wills, and rest to our souls. Speak to each of us, and let your word abide with us until it has wrought in us your holy will. Amen.

Pastor

And what is God's gospel promise?

Congregation To forgive our sins and give us eternal life by grace alone because of Christ's one sacrifice finished on the cross.

Pastor

How does baptism remind you and assure you that Christ's one sacrifice on the cross is for you personally?

Congregation In this way: Christ instituted this outward washing and with it gave the promise that, as surely as water washes away dirt from the body, so certainly his blood and his Spirit wash away my soul's impurity, in other words, all my sins.

Pastor

What does it mean to be washed with Christ's blood and Spirit?

Congregation To be washed with Christ's blood means: that God, by grace, has forgiven my sins because of Christ's blood poured out for me in his sacrifice on the cross. To be washed by Christ's Spirit means that the Holy Spirit has renewed me and set me apart to be a member of Christ so that more and more I become dead to sin and increasingly live a holy and blameless life.

Pastor

Should infants, too, be baptized?

Congregation Yes. Infants as well as adults are in God's covenant and are his people. They, no less than adults, are promised the forgiveness of sins through Christ's blood and the Holy Spirit who produces faith. Therefore, by baptism, the mark of the covenant, infants should be received into the Christian church and should be distinguished from the children of unbelievers. This was done in the Old Testament by circumcision, which was replaced in the New Testament by baptism.
