Ascension Sunday Service of Worship

Pastor
People of God, the ascended Lord of glory, Jesus Christ, sends his greeting to you. And his
greeting is this: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, through the
working of the Holy Spirit. This is the greeting of Christ, who arose from the grave.
All
He died and rose that we might have eternal life. All thanks be to him!
Pastor
This same Christ has ascended to the Father.
All
He ascended that we might experience God’s presence and power. All praise be to him!

Prelude “Far Kingdom” Maddy, Audrey, Emma Bandowski

Call to Worship
Let every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in
them, say, “To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might
forever and ever!”

The Confession
Pastor
People of God, let us believe in our hearts and confess with our mouths that which concerns the
ascension of Christ. What do we mean by saying, “He ascended into heaven?”
All
That Christ, while his disciples watched, was lifted up from the earth to heaven and will be there
for our good until he comes again to judge the living and the dead.
Pastor
How does Christ’s ascension to heaven benefit us?
All
First, he pleads our cause in heaven in the presence of his Father. Second, we have our own flesh
in heaven—a guarantee that Christ our head will take us, his members, to himself in heaven. Third,
he sends his Spirit to us on earth as a further guarantee. By the Spirit’s power we make a goal of
our lives, not earthly things, but the things above where Christ is, sitting at God’s right hand.

Song Shout to the Lord (CCLI#251645)
Chorus:
Shout to the Lord, all the earth, let us sing — Power and majesty, praise to the King; Mountains
bow down and the seas will roar — At the sound of Your name.
I sing for joy at the work of Your hands, Forever I’ll love You, forever I’ll stand;
Nothing compares to the promise I have — In You.

My Jesus, my Savior, Lord, there is none — like You, All of my days — I want to praise —
The wonders of Your mighty love;
My Comfort, — my Shelter, Tower of refuge and strength; Let ev’ry breath, — all that I am —
Never cease to worship You. Chorus:

My Jesus, my Savior, Lord, there is none — like You,
All of my days — I want to praise —
The wonders of Your mighty love;

My Comfort — my Shelter, Tower of refuge and strength;
Let ev’ry breath, — all that I am — Never cease to worship You. Chorus:

Song You’re the Lion of Judah (CCLI#251645)
You’re the Lion of Judah, the Lamb who was slain; You ascended to Heaven and evermore will reign.
At the end of the age when the earth You reclaim, You will gather the nations before You.
And the eyes of all men will be fixed on the Lamb who was crucified.
With wisdom and mercy and justice You’ll reign at Your Father’s side.

Chorus: And the angels will cry —“Hail the Lamb — Who was slain for the world — rule in pow’r,” —
And the earth will reply — “You shall reign — As the King of all kings and the Lord of all lords.”

There’s a shield in our hand and a sword at our side; There’s a fire in our spirits that cannot be
denied. As the Father has told us, for these You have died, for the nations who gather before You.
And the ears of all men need to hear of the Lamb who was crucified,
Who descended to hell, yet was raised up to reign at His Father’s side. (Chorus Twice)
